Simple Ideas To Protect Your Motorcycle From Theft

Seems like the recent energy crisis and recession of late that everyone is looking for ways to save money of gas.  One way to do this is to starting riding a motorcycle.  They are quite fuel efficient, and can cut down on your commute time, and be a joy to ride as well.  One thing to thing about with these wonderful machines is how you are going to prevent it from being stolen.  There are some simple suggestions you can employ to help you keep your bike away from would be thieves.  Although doing some or all of these things will not guarantee that your bike will not be stolen, it will go a long way to help you keep your motorcycle.

 

Your first line of defense is the lock in the steering fork.  These steering locks will keep someone from moving your motorcycle and simply rolling it away from where it is parked.  As an extra measure of protection you should also use an ignition lock along with the steering lock.  This way any potential robber will be slowed down and have to deal with two locks in order to take your motorbike.

 

Remember that out of site is out of mind, and if you be cautious where you park your bike when at home.  You do not want to show off your bike and keep it on display on the front lawn.  No, do not do this and try to keep your by put away in an inconspicuous location when parked at home.  Do not aid any would be thieves by advertising that your bike is easy pickings right there in your front yard.

 

When you park it in public, try to keep it in a place that is in plain public view.  Motorcycle thieves look for hidden and out of the way spots so they can do their work in secret.  You want your bike right there for everyone to see it so that any potential robber will not want to take the time and be seen trying to jack your motorcycle.  In addition, if you are parking at night try to make sure it is in a well lit location.

 

One simple thing that is easy to forget it your keys.  Of course, if you leave your keys in the ignition that is all too easy to for someone to drive away with your pride and joy.  One thing you should do, however, is to record your key number in case you lose your keys.  You will also want to file away your key number as it is very easy for someone to make copies of your keys if they have this number.  You will see your key number stamped on your key, usually near the top part of it.

 

If you really want to spend a little extra money you can get an alarm for your motorcycle.  A popular type of alarm is the disc alarm, which can attach to your wheel.  These devices can send you a text or page if it is activated and someone is trying to steal your motorcycle.  There are audible alarms available in these models as well.
